• What’s the plan Stan? – To hopefully (crossing fingers) spend the next 3 months (i.e a quarter) travelling to New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan, and make some amazing memories.
  • Why now? – The answer to this is why not now? People rarely find themselves in the holy trinity of having enough money + enough time + good health, so with our children leaving home, and us in good health, we have decided to take a punt, raid our pension pots and hit the road.
  •  What about your Jobs? – After working in corporate IT for 35yrs Lawrie has had enough! He’s going to use this time to think about other career avenues that he can explore when he gets back. My TV job is freelance, so I’ve managed to take a break with the view to return back in April.
What about money? – Over the years we have worked and saved hard, overpaying the mortgage and filling our pension pots. Yes we travel lots, but we also live in the same tiny terrace that we bought 24yrs ago and drive second hand cars that let in water!
What about the kids? – They are happy for us. The eldest is in his 3rd year at uni, living at home, looking after the cat, and the youngest has recently set sail for Swansea Uni. They will be fine (cross fingers again).
Why are you blogging? – I love planning travel so much that I even do it for a living! Over the years I’ve learnt so many travels planning hacks and money saving tips that I think its only fair to share them. So this blog will be a mix of the adventures we are having, but also how we went about doing it, and hopefully it will inspire you to catch the travel bug too.

An example of the money saved on leg 1:
    – 2 x one way flights to Auckland – Real total cost £2500 – What we paid £200 each plus 90,000 Airmiles (lots more on this to come).
    – 2 x National Express Tickets to Gatwick – Real cost £60 – What we paid £0 (paid for with Tesco points)
    – 2 x Lounge Passes at Gatwick – real cost £48 – What we paid £0 (unlimited Priority passes included with my Halifax World Elite credit card £15 per month)
    – Overnight hotel at Gatwick Hilton – real cost £123 – What we paid £123 – but 740 Aimiles collected.

Total cost for Leg 1 for 2 people to get door to door to New Zealand = £523!

  1. This is brilliant! You two are certainly living life to its fullest. Remember to look out for birds and let me know what you see! There have been no all night raves at yours so far. Bit disappointing really.
